Clogs We Clear in Orlando

Kitchen sinks, tubs and showers, toilets, laundry standpipes, floor drains, and the main sewer line that carries all of it out to the street. Most calls are one of those.

The part that matters is not just opening the drain today. It is finding out why it closed. A line that clogs every few months is telling you something about grease, roots, a low spot in the pipe, or old cast iron that has scaled up on the inside.

Do Not Wait It Out

Signs a Drain Needs Professional Cleaning

A plunger and a little patience handle plenty of clogs. These are the signs that the problem sits further down the line than a plunger can reach.

01The Same Drain Keeps Clogging

If you clear a drain and it slows down again within weeks, the blockage was never fully removed. Something is still in the pipe catching everything that goes past it.

02More Than One Fixture Is Slow

One slow sink is a local clog. A slow sink, a slow tub, and a gurgling toilet at the same time usually means the main line rather than the fixtures.

03Gurgling and Bubbling

Air has to go somewhere. When a toilet burbles as the washing machine drains, water is struggling past a partial blockage downstream.

04Water Comes Up Somewhere Else

Flush the toilet and the shower fills. Run the washer and the floor drain backs up. That is a main line problem, and it needs attention now rather than next week.

05A Smell From the Drain

A sour or sewage smell usually means buildup on the pipe walls, a dry trap, or waste sitting in the line instead of moving through it.

06An Older Orlando Home

Plenty of homes here still run cast iron or clay laterals. Both scale up and both attract roots. Mature oaks in Winter Park, College Park, and Audubon Park are hard on sewer lines.

Two Different Tools

Snaking Versus Hydro Jetting

A cable machine punches through a blockage. A jetter scours the pipe wall. They solve different problems, and the honest answer is that most calls only need the first one.

Snaking Is Right When
  • One fixture is blocked and the rest of the house drains fine
  • You need the line open today at the lowest reasonable cost
  • The obstruction is an object, a hair mass, or a soft clog
  • The pipe is fragile enough that high pressure is not the first move

The tradeoff is that a cable opens a channel through the blockage. It does not always take the walls back to bare pipe, so grease and scale can rebuild.

Hydro Jetting Is Right When
  • The line clogs again and again in the same spot
  • Years of grease have narrowed a kitchen or restaurant line
  • Roots have gotten into a sewer lateral
  • Scale has built up inside older cast iron
  • You want the pipe cleaned rather than just opened

Jetting uses high pressure water to strip the inside of the pipe. More on the process is on our hydro jetting page.

One caution worth stating plainly. Hydro jetting is not right for every pipe. Badly corroded cast iron, cracked clay, or a line that has already partly collapsed can be made worse by high pressure. That is why we look before we jet, and why we will tell you when jetting is the wrong call.

Seeing Inside the Line

When a Camera Inspection Makes Sense

Not every clogged sink needs a camera. These are the situations where guessing costs more than looking. Details are on our sewer camera inspections page.

The Clog Keeps Coming Back

If the same line blocks two or three times, stop paying to open it and find out what is down there. A camera turns a guess into a location and a cause.

Roots Are Suspected

Roots enter at joints and cracks. The camera shows where they are getting in, which decides whether cutting and jetting will hold or whether the pipe needs repair.

Before Buying a Home

An older Orlando house with original cast iron is worth inspecting before closing. A sewer line problem found after you own it is entirely your problem.

Before a Remodel

If walls or slab are opening anyway, knowing the condition of the drain line first can save doing the work twice.

After a Backup

A backup that flooded a floor deserves a cause, not just a cleanup. The camera confirms whether the line is clear and sound afterward.

When Something Is Lost

Rings and small valuables that went down a drain are easier to recover when someone can see where they came to rest.

Between Visits

Simple Habits That Keep Drains Open

In the Kitchen
  • Pour cooking grease into a can and throw it out once it sets. Hot grease goes down as a liquid and hardens in the pipe.
  • Scrape plates into the trash before rinsing
  • Run cold water while the disposal is on, and for a few seconds after
  • Keep coffee grounds, rice, pasta, and fibrous peels out of the disposal
  • Flush the drain with hot water after washing up
Everywhere Else
  • Put a hair catcher in every shower and tub. It is the cheapest thing on this list.
  • Only toilet paper goes in a toilet. Wipes labeled flushable are not.
  • Run water in guest bathrooms and floor drains monthly so the traps do not dry out
  • Skip the chemical drain openers. They rarely clear a real blockage, and they are hard on older pipes and on whoever opens the line next.
  • If you have mature trees over the sewer line, treat recurring slow drains as a warning rather than a nuisance

For a busy household, a professional cleaning before the holidays is cheaper than an emergency call during them. Commercial kitchens usually do better on a set schedule than on waiting for symptoms.

Quick Answers

Drain Cleaning FAQ

Why does my drain keep clogging?+

Because the last clearing opened a path without removing what caused it. The usual culprits are grease coating the pipe wall, roots at a joint, scale inside old cast iron, or a low spot in the line where waste settles. A camera inspection tells you which one you have.

How much does drain cleaning cost in Orlando?+

It depends on which line, how we access it, and whether the fix is a cable machine or a jetter. You get a written price before any work starts, you approve it first, and that is the number on the invoice. Call (407) 326-3056, describe what is happening, and we will tell you what is involved.

Do chemical drain cleaners actually work?+

Rarely on a real blockage. They can eat through a soft clog near the opening, but they do nothing to roots or a main line, and the leftover chemical sits in the pipe. Repeated use is hard on older pipes and on the plumber who has to open the line afterward. If one bottle has not fixed it, stop pouring.

Is hydro jetting safe for old pipes?+

Usually, but not always, and that is worth checking first. Sound cast iron and clay handle jetting fine. A pipe that is already cracked, badly corroded, or partly collapsed can be damaged by it. We inspect before jetting an older line rather than assuming.

Why are all my drains backing up at once?+

That points at the main sewer line rather than any one fixture. Stop running water, avoid flushing, and call. Continuing to use water pushes waste toward the blockage and into whatever the lowest drain in the house happens to be.

How often should drains be cleaned?+

A typical home does not need a schedule and can clean when symptoms show up. Homes with mature trees over the lateral, older cast iron, or a history of backups do better on a regular interval. Commercial kitchens should be on a set schedule rather than waiting for a slow drain.
